A well-guarded pocket that can cause great damage

From the third larval stage of the caterpillar, we observe the appearance of small pockets. Inside these there are thousands of microscopic hairs in the shape of harpoons. In addition to their highly volatile characteristic, the hairs contain a stinging venom. When the caterpillar is worried, it then opens its pouches and releases these hairs into the air. These very light hairs can be carried by the wind and come into contact with the skin. By rubbing, the hairs break and release the venom causing severe itching. These caterpillars are also harmful to pets that are extremely sensitive to stinging hairs. In some subjects, it can sometimes cause necrosis of the tongue.
